A Rolex at €12,000 is beautiful. But a Japanese automatic watch, hand-assembled in France, with meticulous finishes... for less than €500? That's exactly what the world of Seiko Mods offers. A trend that has been growing for several years, driven by enthusiasts who refuse to choose between quality and budget.
But concretely, what is a Seiko Mod? How does it work? Who wears them? And most importantly, is it for you? We explain everything.
What is a Seiko Mod?
A Seiko Mod (or SeikoMod) is a completely customized watch, built around an original Seiko automatic movement, to which custom components are associated: case, dial, hands, bezel, crystal, strap. The term "Mod" comes from modification.
The result: a unique watch, which exists nowhere else, often inspired by the aesthetic codes of the greatest watch manufacturers: Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, but with Japanese mechanics renowned for their reliability and an incomparable price.
It is neither a copy nor a counterfeit. It is an original creation, designed down to the smallest detail, hand-assembled by passionate watchmakers.

Where does the SeikoMod phenomenon come from?
It all started in the 2000s, on Anglo-Saxon watch forums. Enthusiasts discovered that there were "aftermarket" parts: dials, bezels, hands that were compatible with Seiko cases. They started assembling them themselves, sharing their creations online. Reddit, Instagram, YouTube did the rest: the community exploded.
What was initially a hobby for watch nerds has become a market in its own right. Today, specialized workshops like LSMods offer professionally assembled SeikoMods, with warranty, quality control, and a level of finish that rivals much more expensive watches.
The driving force behind all this: the exceptional technical foundation that Seiko offers. Automatic movements like the NH35, whose official specifications are available on the Seiko website, are used worldwide by independent watchmakers precisely because they are reliable, accessible, and easy to maintain.
How is a Seiko Mod built?
Here are the components that go into making a SeikoMod, and what each brings.
The movement is the heart of the watch. At LSMods, we use the Seiko NH35 automatic movement: 24 jewels, manual winding, hacking seconds, power reserve of approximately 41 hours. A caliber that has proven itself in thousands of watches worldwide. No compromise on mechanics.
The case, in 316L stainless steel, determines the overall style. Round, tonneau, octagonal depending on the model. The diameter is chosen according to taste and morphology: our models range from the more discreet 36 mm to the more assertive 40 mm.
The dial gives the watch its soul. Color, texture, indexes, type of numerals: every detail is carefully selected. Some "sunburst" dials literally change color depending on the angle of the light, an effect impossible to render in a photo.
The hands, gilded, silvered, skeletonized or luminous, complete the visual identity. The same dial with different hands makes a different watch.
The bezel, fixed or rotating, polished or satin-finished, is inspired by a Submariner or a Royal Oak depending on the desired universe.
The crystal: we systematically use anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal. The same material as luxury watches, with a hardness of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, virtually scratch-proof under normal wearing conditions.
The strap completely transforms the character of a watch. Steel, rubber, Milanese mesh: each material tells a different story.
Each piece is then hand-assembled in our workshop, tested, controlled and checked for water resistance before shipping.

The most popular SeikoMod models
The world of SeikoMods has largely drawn inspiration from watchmaking icons to create its own interpretations. Here are the flagship models in our range.
The SeikoMod Nautilus adopts the codes of the Patek Philippe Nautilus: integrated bezel, ribbed dial, integrated sport-chic bracelet. Elegant without being ostentatious, it is our bestseller for both men and women.
The SeikoMod Royal Oak is inspired by the Audemars Piguet: bolted octagonal bezel, "Grande Tapisserie" dial, strong character. The watch that never goes unnoticed.
The SeikoMod Datejust pays homage to the best-selling Rolex in the world. Classic, sober, timeless. It is often the first choice for new customers who want something versatile.
The SeikoMod Submariner and the Marine Master embody the world of diving: rotating bezel, luminous dial, assumed robustness. Watches that assert themselves and are sporty.
The SeikoMod Daytona for chronograph and sporty aesthetic lovers. Equipped with a Seiko Instruments VK63 movement for the chronograph functions.
The SeikoMod Aquanaut and the Land Dweller complete the range for those looking for something less common, with more pronounced aesthetic choices.

SeikoMod vs luxury watch: honest comparison
We are often asked the question. Here is a frank answer, without false modesty or false humility.
| Luxury Watch | Seiko Mod | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | €5,000 to €50,000+ | €200 to €500 |
| Movement | Manufacture or ETA | Japanese Seiko NH35 |
| Assembly | In manufacture | Hand-assembled in France |
| Customization | None | Total |
| Warranty | 2 to 5 years | 2 years |
| Uniqueness | Series model | Unique piece |
| Crystal | Sapphire | Anti-reflective treated sapphire |
The SeikoMod does not claim to be a Rolex. It offers something else: a unique, affordable, reliable watch that you wear with pride because it tells your story, not that of a century-old luxury house. Many of our customers own luxury watches. They wear their SeikoMod daily and keep the others in a safe.
SeikoMod and counterfeiting: an essential distinction
This is a point on which we want to be clear. A SeikoMod is not a counterfeit.
A counterfeit reproduces an existing watch identically, by copying the logo, the brand, the references. This is illegal, misleading, and frankly not very reputable.
A SeikoMod is inspired by the aesthetic codes of luxury watchmaking: shapes, proportions, finishes, without reproducing any protected logo or brand. This is exactly what the fashion world has always done: drawing inspiration from trends without copying. The difference is fundamental, legally and ethically.

Who wears Seiko Mods?
The SeikoMod community is much larger than one might imagine.
Watchmaking enthusiasts who know movements by heart and want beautiful mechanics without mortgaging their savings. Style lovers who are looking for a watch that they won't see on everyone's wrist on the subway. Executives and entrepreneurs who appreciate the artisanal product made in France and the story it tells. Collectors who want to explore aesthetics that major brands don't produce. And curious people who saw a photo on Instagram, typed "seiko mod" into Google, and never let go of the subject.
What unites them: the refusal of disposables, the desire for a watch that lasts, and a certain sense of quirky style.

Your questions about Seiko Mods
Is a Seiko Mod a counterfeit? No. A SeikoMod is an original creation inspired by the aesthetic codes of luxury watchmaking without reproducing any protected brand or logo. It is customization craftsmanship, recognized and legally practiced worldwide.
What is the lifespan of a Seiko Mod? The NH35 movement is designed to last for decades with normal maintenance: a service every 5 to 10 years by a watchmaker is sufficient. Our watches are guaranteed for 2 years against any manufacturing defect.
Can you customize your Seiko Mod at LSMods? Yes. Our online configurator allows you to choose each component: model, dial, color, strap. If you have a specific idea that is not in the configurator, contact us directly by email, we love custom projects.
Are SeikoMods waterproof? Yes. Each watch leaving our workshop is tested for water resistance before shipping. Our models are water-resistant for daily use including hand washing and rain.
How much does a Seiko Mod cost at LSMods? Between €200 and €350 depending on the model and selected options. Free delivery in France, 2-year warranty included, no hidden fees.
What is the difference between a SeikoMod and an original Seiko? An original Seiko is mass-produced by the Japanese brand. A SeikoMod uses the Seiko movement as a base, but everything else: case, dial, bezel, crystal, strap is selected and assembled independently to create a unique piece. It's the difference between buying a production car and having a custom coachbuilder.
The SeikoMod, a true alternative to accessible luxury
The Seiko Mod is not a passing trend. It's a new way of conceiving a watch: a personal object, chosen down to the smallest detail, carefully built, worn with pride. A serious alternative to inaccessible luxury watchmaking, for those who refuse to wear the same watch as everyone else.
In our workshop, each piece is hand-assembled in our French workshop, based on the Seiko NH35 movement, with premium materials chosen to last.
